Dear Members,
Today is an exciting day. After several months of planning, we are launching our new brand identity! Building on our market research, it was clear that we wanted our logo and new tagline to reflect connections. You are all connectors in our own organizations and TECNA helps connect all of your insights and expertise. Additionally, we wanted a fresh look reflecting the energy and forward-looking aspects of our membership. Hopefully you’re as happy with the end product as we are. You'll start to see updates to communication channels, such as the TECNA Digest, website, social media outlets, etc. While our website may look new, a full web redesign will be unveiled in early 2015. Many thanks to our branding task force including Chair, Julie Huls, President & CEO, Austin Technology Council and Ryan Weber, President, KCnext and Doug Robertson, President & CEO, Venn Innovation.
In other news, we are preparing for the launch of the National Survey of Technology, Policy and Strategic issues on October 27. This will be in the field until November 7. Thirty-six councils are now participating – an increase of 35% from last year. Thanks to all! On October 31, we conclude the second phase of our joint research with the University of Phoenix. A virtual roundtable will be held with professionals from 13 councils discussing findings of our recent research on software development skills.
Efforts are underway for a meeting in November of the TECNA/CompTIA Exploratory Task Force. Participants will assess opportunities to more closely align with CompTIA further enhancing the support of TECNA and our financial sustainability. The Board will continue to assess opportunities and will vote in March if any changes will be made to the existing agreement.
As we look toward 2015, the membership committee emailed all member CEOs this past week with updates on TECNA dues. In order to keep up with the pace of our ambitious strategic objectives, while maintaining valuable benefits such as free CEO registrations and comp nights at the CEO Retreat, the Board recently asked the membership committee to review the current membership levels so that we can maintain and build upon our recent growth. On average, TECNA directly invests between $2,500 - $7,000 per member association. This means the ROI has been between 56-1000% per organization, depending on your level and involvement as a CompTIA policy alliance partner. Furthermore, it has been more than 8 years since dues were last adjusted.
After thorough review of several options, the membership committee proposed adjusting dues on a sliding scale. This means that there will be no increase in dues for small associations and affiliates, and modest increases for medium, large and very large associations. You may review the new dues structure and member handbook here.
Best regards,
Bob
