CTC President and CEO Matthew Nemerson was recently quoted in an article by Andy Smith in the Providence Journal regarding the state of the Tech industry in Rhode Island, and specifically in Providence. Check out the full text here, on their website. A portion is quoted below.
Matthew Nemerson, president and CEO of the Connecticut Technology Council and a former candidate for mayor of New Haven, said there are a lot of things to like about Providence.
Nemerson said Betaspring enjoys a strong reputation, as does the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.
“Maybe we think of Providence as more artsy than high-tech, but it’s still a very cool place,” he said. From the perspective of New Haven, he said, Providence is considered almost part of Boston, an economic plus.
Nemerson said New Haven would like to emulate some of the things Providence has accomplished in the past 25 years.
“It’s something of a role model for what we’re trying to do,” he said. “You’ve tried to make it a cool and international place, opening the rivers, building the [downtown] mall, ‘WaterFire.’ There are some interesting things going on with the highway reconstruction land where [Route] 195 used to be.”
