Six Industry Category Winners Announced for 2011 Marcum Tech Top 40
HARTFORD, Conn. (September 27, 2011) – Six winners representing key areas of technology were announced as the fastest growing technology companies in Connecticut at the 2011 Marcum Tech Top 40 awards ceremony on September 27 at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford. Marcum LLP, one of the nation’s leading accounting and advisory firms, and The Connecticut Technology Council recognized the 40 fastest growing technology companies in Connecticut based on revenue growth over the past four years.

The overall winner of this year’s Marcum Tech Top 40 is Tolland-based OpenSky Corporation. The IT Services company has achieved revenue growth of 18,221 percent over the past four years. The company provides professional services in IT consulting, infrastructure, risk management, security and virtualization.

RSL Fiber Systems is a repeat category winner in Advanced Manufacturing. The company manufactures advanced lighting solutions and integrated illumination for coal mining, refineries, offshore rigs, first responders and other applications.
STR Holdings, which won in Energy/Environmental Technologies, is a leader in solar panel encapsulation.
Life Sciences winner Alexion Pharmaceuticals’ Soliris drug catapulted the company to the top of the Tech Top 40 the last two years. Alexion is now expanding its reach into additional treatment areas.
HealthPlanOne, LLC, led New Media/Internet/Telecom technology and is also a repeat category winner. The company is a web-based health insurance brokerage focused on marketing individual/family and small business health insurance.
Software winner, Higher One Holdings, Inc., went public last year. The company provides electronic payment and disbursement services for colleges and universities and their students.
Marcum Tech Top 40 companies are required to have at least $50,000 in revenue in the first year and $3 million in revenue in the fourth year. The list is made up primarily of privately-held companies, but does include 13 public companies. Geographically, the companies are fairly evenly distributed across the state.
This year’s sponsors included CNA Insurance, the law firm of Pullman & Comley, Webster Bank, Connecticut Innovations, First Experience Communications, Dsign Digital LLP, Robert Half Technology, TriNet HR Corporation and Wellstone Insurance.
